Hi, We’re Michel and Sophia.

Our Rottweiler, Maggy, is also a big part of our family. We started Brasa to teach people, just like you, how to cook authentic Peruvian food at home. We’re a family-owned company based in Toronto, CA.

We know just how great Peruvian food is. Now, we want to share it and give you an intimate experience with this culture.

PERUVIAN GOVERNMENT LOCKDOWN AND A COVID-GENERATED BUSINESS IDEA

At the beginning of 2020, Michel took a step back from his restaurant partnerships at Baro and Petty Cash. Instead, he wanted to share his home country’s exotic flavours with the rest of the world.

Michel began piecing together his dream of creating a Peruvian quick service restaurant that he’d call, Brasa Peruvian Kitchen

In preparation for his restaurant’s launch, he travelled to Peru to meet with farmers, historians and fishermen. 

The very people who would help shape Brasa’s brand and develop the menu.

DURING HIS RESEARCH TRIP, COVID-19 BECAME A HARSH REALITY AND THE PRESIDENT OF PERU IMPOSED MARTIAL LAW.

Michel was forced into a government lock down for three weeks, uncertain of when he would be allowed to return home. 

While stuck in his Airbnb, he accepted the fact that his restaurant would not open this year. He began conceptualizing how he could teach people to cook Peruvian at home. Michel was well aware that the restaurant industry was not going to be the same. People were going to spend more time making meals at home and he had to be nimble.  

Michel was inspired. 

He recounted the story of how the Airbnb founders started their company under unusual circumstances by funding their startup by selling politically themed breakfast cereal. 

His story would entail developing kits that included two Peruvian marinade pastes (Aji Amarillo & Aji Panca). He envisioned a beautifully designed box that would consist of the two marinades & eight chef-designed Peruvian recipes. 

After months of development, which included building the brand, supply chain, website and more, Brasa tu Casa came to life. 

Sophia is Michel’s partner in all of this overseeing PR and marketing efforts. She fell in love with Peru’s exotic tastes and indescribable flavours and felt compelled to share Brasa’s story with the world.

Sophia took a leap of faith and left her comfortable career to join Michel full-time in building the brand.

With just a quick visit to your grocery store to pick up key ingredients, you’ll be serving flavourful Peruvian food to your friends and family in no time. 

As for the quick service restaurant?

Yes, it’s still coming. Our first location, Brasa Peruvian Kitchen, is opening in March 2021 in downtown Toronto.
